2017 NFL Power Rankings: Where Do Los Angeles Rams Stand After Free Agency Signings?
By Dan Parzych
11. Houston Texans
Believe it or not, the Houston Texans pulled the unthinkable by finding a taker for Brock Osweiler‘s ridiculous contract to avoid missing out on a ton of money that would have come with the release of the quarterback. The fact that Osweiler threw more interceptions than actual touchdowns during his first, and only, season with the Texans shows how much of a disaster that contract was from the start, but at least the team can start fresh.
The argument can be made that with a different quarterback, Houston could have pulled off the upset over the New England Patriots when considering how well the defense played for the most part against Tom Brady. Only time will tell when finding out whether the Texans next quarterback under center is Tony Romo depending on what the Dallas Cowboys end up doing with the veteran, but unfortunately the defense took a hit in free agency with the departure of a few key players.
To see A.J. Bouye leave one of the top defenses in the league to join another team within the division in the Jacksonville Jaguars obviously hurts for Houston, but the money the cornerback will be making with his new team was simply too much to match. At least for the Texans, the loss of Bouye on defense doesn’t mean they still shouldn’t be considered one of the top teams in the AFC at this point in the offseason.
