5. Larry Donnell

With the release of Lance Kendricks, the Los Angeles Rams have high expectations for tight end Tyler Higbee entering his second season with the team after a quiet rookie year in 2016. The former Western Kentucky standout only ended up with 11 catches for 85 yards with a touchdown last season with the Rams, and even though the addition of Sean McVay will hopefully result in more involvement from Higbee on offense, it wouldn’t be the worst decision to bring on another tight end in free agency.

As great of an option as Jared Cook would be, the chances of him re-joining Los Angeles after all of the success he had in 2016 with the Green Bay Packers seems like a long shot at this point. His numbers from the last two seasons with the New York Giants may not be the most impressive statistics in the world, but a fresh start with a team like the Rams could be just what a tight end like Larry Donnell needs to finally get the ball rolling again.

Keep in mind it wasn’t long ago in 2014 when Donnell managed to find the end zone six times courtesy of Eli Manning while finishing the year with 63 catches for 623 yards. If McVay can figure out a way to help the tight end return to that level of play, Donnell could end up being a solid addition to Jared Goff in the passing game.
