5 Reasons Todd Gurley Will Bounce Back For Los Angeles Rams in 2017

3. Jared Goff’s Development
Like most rookie quarterbacks in the NFL, Jared Goff saw his fair share of struggles during his first season under center with the Los Angeles Rams after failing to win a single game in seven starts. But Goff certainly deserves some benefit of the doubt when looking at what the Rams gave him to work with on the offensive side of the football, which wasn’t much.
The good news for Goff is not only did Los Angeles bring an offensive mastermind on board in the hiring of Sean McVay, but the new head coach has done an amazing job with the rest of the coaching staff to help get the best out of the former California standout. On top of McVay, the rest of the Rams coaching staff consists of offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur (worked with Matt Ryan) and quarterbacks coach Greg Olson (worked with Blake Bortles) to assist with the development of Goff.
For a team that surrendered this year’s first-round pick in the upcoming draft, Goff realizes the heavy level of pressure on him heading into his first full season as the starter, but at least Los Angeles has made the necessary moves to get the best out of their quarterback. When looking at all of the coaches he will be fortunate to work with this offseason, Goff’s level of play can only go up from here, and the best part is more production from the passing game will take some of the pressure off Todd Gurley at running back.
Just look at the game film from last year, and it was easy to see how many more opponents were stacking the box more on defense since they knew Gurley was the only legitimate threat on the Rams’ offense. Hopefully, that will no longer be the case in 2017, assuming Goff’s development process goes according to plan to make opponents take Los Angeles’ passing game more serious than last year.
