T.J. McDonald joins the Miami Dolphins after spending the last four seasons with the Los Angeles Rams.

Despite spending the last four seasons as a member of the Los Angeles Rams, all signs pointed to T.J. McDonald finding a new home for the 2017 season, as all signs pointed to the team parting ways with their former safety once free agency got underway. Turns out, the Rams may have made the right decision after McDonald found out he would be forced to miss the first eight games of the regular season due to a suspension, but that hasn’t stopped the Miami Dolphins from at least taking a chance.

According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, McDonald has agreed to a one-year deal with the Dolphins to help fill their need at the safety position. Even though McDonald won’t be eligible to play until the second half of the season, that doesn’t mean the safety won’t be able to make an immediate impact when he does return, as the Dolphins hope to make a playoff run for the second year in a row.

As Salguero mentions, McDonald better not let this opportunity for a fresh start with a new team go to waste since the Dolphins will have no problem parting ways if he continues to cause issues off the field. The reason why McDonald is serving this suspension comes from an incident from last May in which he was suspected of driving under the influence of suspected drugs, and he certainly has a long process ahead of him when it comes to winning the trust of his new teammates and coaches.

Even though he’s no longer a member of the Rams, here’s to hoping this suspension is a big wakeup call for McDonald, and he uses this incident as motivation to turn things around. As for Los Angeles losing McDonald, at least the team should still be in good shape with Maurice Alexander and Lamarcus Joyner moving forward.
