Nickell Robey-Coleman joins the Los Angeles Rams after spending the first four seasons of his career with the Buffalo Bills.

Over the last few weeks, the Los Angeles Rams have been quite busy in free agency to make sure the team does whatever it takes to bounce back from last year’s disappointing 4-12 finish by making numerous key additions on both sides of the football. Not only is there plenty of excitement surrounding the hiring of the youngest head coach in NFL history with Sean McVay, but the defense looks to hit a whole new level now that Wade Phillips is on board as the defensive coordinator.

Phillips’ resume alone is enough to be excited about what’s in store for Los Angeles on the defensive side of the football in 2017, especially since he gets the opportunity to work with one of the best players the league has to offer in Aaron Donald. Thanks to the help of Phillips, the Rams were able to make two key additions in free agency with Kayvon Webster and Connor Barwin, but the one under the radar move that will hopefully pay off is the signing of Nickell Robey-Coleman to add depth at cornerback.

Just like his new teammate Robert Woods, Robey-Coleman has every reason in the world to be excited about returning to California (played for USC in college), and as Rams Insider Myles Simmons points out, the cornerback’s passer rating in 2016 makes this move even more exciting. The fact that Robey-Coleman ranked second in the league among slot corners last year with a 74.86 passer rating shows why this was a solid move by Los Angeles from a depth perspective.

Coincidentally, the two interceptions and one touchdown recorded by Robey-Coleman during the 2016 season happened to come against his new team when the Rams hosted the Bills in Week 5. Once again, these moves in free agency have provided Los Angeles fans with plenty of reasons for excitement over what could be in store for 2017, and hopefully that trend continues a few weeks from now when the NFL Draft officially gets underway.
