The Los Angeles Rams will have to wait for a Super Bowl. But that may not be a bad thing.

The Los Angeles Rams might feel a bit “snake bit” this week. After the decision came down, literally, that the Inglewood project was being delayed a year by rain, came word that the Super Bowl would wait too.

When it rains it pours,
pun absolutely intended.

So while the Rams will continue in the Coliseum, and San Diego on their soccer field, take a moment to think what might be when Super Bowl Sunday rolls around come 2022.

I mean, “what if?”

Maybe, this season is the one where the fog lifts for Jared Goff and the justification for making him the top overall pick reveals itself.

Rookies Cooper Kupp, Josh Reynolds, and Gerald Everett become the corp group that moves the Rams from offensive cellar dwellers to Pro Bowl perennials who launch Goff to franchise status.

In 2022, Aaron Donald, Tyler Higbee, Pharoh Cooper and Todd Gurley are veteran leaders who provide the stability like former standard bearer Seattle.

Sean McVay will have established himself as the offensive guru reminiscent of NFC West legend Bill Walsh.

No longer is it SeattleGreen Bay or Dallas the NFC contenders need to go through. Now the road to the Super Bowl rolls through Los Angeles and the palace in Inglewood teeming with young guns and super stars like Goff, and Kupp, Higbee and Reynolds.

2022 is the year that the home team in the Super Bowl might be the home team.

Fantasy?

Maybe.

But make no doubt, as comical as this franchise has been for way too long now, Los Angeles looks to be re-laying a foundation for something better, and perhaps something special.

Five years is a lifetime in the National Football League.

It’s also just long enough to launch a few careers and build a dynasty.

Or at the very least, a bonafide contender.

As for 2022, who knows. Maybe the Rams will be the benefit of a restart,
after restart,
after restart.

Why not? It’s May 2017. Everyone is a contender in 2022.
