With the Kansas City Chiefs releasing Jeremy Maclin, should the Los Angeles Rams consider signing the veteran wide receiver?

After the offense of the Los Angeles Rams finished dead last in the NFL during the 2016 season by only averaging 14 points per game, the team has used free agency along with the recent NFL Draft to make sure that won’t be the case this upcoming season. One of the top priorities for the Rams entering the offseason was improve the receiving corps, and even though the team has done a solid job for the most part, they may want to take a look at Jeremy Maclin.

The veteran wide receiver was released by the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday in a move that came as a surprise to many, but when looking at the amount of money the team will be saving, it’s easy to understand the decision. The former Philadelphia Eagles receiver spent the last two seasons as a member of the Chiefs, but Maclin was coming off a disappointing 2016 campaign in which he only caught 44 passes for 536 yards to go along with two touchdowns in 12 games.

At this stage in his career, it’s easy to assume joining a team like the Rams wouldn’t be high on Maclin’s list when considering he would most likely prefer to join a contender. But from Maclin’s perspective, the thought of joining a team like Los Angeles with a quarterback like Jared Goff looking to make the leap during his second year under center doesn’t seem like the craziest idea in the world.

Assuming he would be able to remain healthy, Maclin would be the type of receiver who could not only have an immediate impact, but could be an influence to some of the younger players at wideout. It’s only a matter of time before Maclin finds a new home for the 2017 season when considering how effective he’s proven to be throughout his career, and if the Rams were smart, they would at least take the possibility into consideration since Goff could easily use another weapon to work with.
