For the second year in a row, Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald deserved to be higher on the NFL Top 100 list.

Despite all of the disappointment surrounding the Los Angeles Rams over the last couple of years, Aaron Donald has been one of the few things to be positive about when seeing he’s already considered to be one of the top defensive superstars in the league. In fact, Donald recently took home honors from Pro Football Focus as the No. 1 player heading into the 2017 season, but for whatever reason, the former first-round pick just can’t seem to get the same love from the NFL Top 100.

The NFL Network has spent the last few weeks releasing the names of players who have been fortunate enough to earn a spot on the NFL Top 100 players heading into the 2017 season, and for some reason, Donald found a way to fall one spot from last year after coming in at No. 15. Unlike some of the other NFL rankings, the Top 100 list is actually conducted by the players themselves, but that doesn’t takeaway from the odd placement by Donald in each of the last two seasons.

Not only has Donald recorded 28 sacks over his first three seasons with the Rams, but he led the league last year with 31 quarterback hits. And even though last year’s total of eight sacks was the lowest of his career, Donald deserves some benefit of the doubt for posting these kind of numbers when considering all of the extra coverage he was receiving from opponents.

Obviously, Donald landing at No. 14 on this year’s list isn’t that big of a deal since the most important factor is he continues to succeed in 2017, especially since this will mark his first season playing under Wade Phillips as defensive coordinator. But more importantly, let’s hope Les Snead stops hesitating about rewarding Donald with the new contract he deserves to avoid any holdouts in a few weeks once training camp officially gets underway.
