Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay seems to be impressed with Malcolm Brown as the No. 2 running back for the offense.

Thanks to Tre Mason deciding to skip training camp last year, one of the players that were able to make a name for himself on the Los Angeles Rams at running back was Malcolm Brown. In fact, there was a time during the 2016 NFL preseason in which Brown was the league’s rushing leader through two games, and with Benny Cunningham officially out of the picture, the former Texas star looks like he’s going to have an opportunity to shine for the Rams.

With training camp officially underway for Los Angeles, new head coach Sean McVay has already praised Brown for the work he’s put in to prove he deserves the No. 2 job at running back behind Todd Gurley. Between the Rams having to pass more on offense due to the fact they were trailing in most games along with playing behind Gurley and Cunningham, the opportunities weren’t really there for Brown in the ground game last season after he was limited to earning just 18 carries.

With that being said, last preseason is the perfect example of how effective Brown can be when given the opportunity, and it’s easy to see why McVay has been impressed with his performance so far. Ever since he joined the Rams in 2015 as an undrafted free agent, Brown has been waiting for that opportunity to make an impact on offense, and assuming everything continues to go well over the next month, this season will be his best chance yet.

Thanks to improving the offensive line this offseason by landing one of the top free agents in Andrew Whitworth, Gurley and company should be able to improve from last year’s disastrous outing in which Los Angeles failed to record a single 100-yard rushing game. The chances of Brown coming through with a few 100-yard games may seem like a long shot due to not receiving the same amount of carries as Gurley, but anything is possible when it comes to the NFL, so Rams fans shouldn’t rule out the possibility.
