2017 NFL Power Rankings: Where do Los Angeles Rams stand heading into Week 1 preseason?
By Dan Parzych
11. Miami Dolphins
Speaking of quarterback losses, the Miami Dolphins suffered a major blow with the recent injury to Ryan Tannehill, but in a way, the signing of Jay Cutler is arguably an upgrade at quarterback for the offense. With all due respect towards Tannehill, the Dolphins had been waiting forever to see him elevate his game to a whole new level, and while there were flashes of greatness at times over the last two years, it still never seemed to be enough.
Convincing Cutler to come out of retirement puts Miami in a much better position to not only make another run at the postseason, but give the New England Patriots extra competition in the AFC East. Comparison wise, it may seem like a long shot to overtake the defending Super Bowl champions when considering they found a way to improve even more in the offseason, but at least Cutler gives them a better chance to do so than Matt Moore.
Football fans can say what they want about Cutler’s last few years with the Chicago Bears, but the veteran quarterback finds himself in a much better situation in Miami thanks to an offense loaded with talent. With weapons like Jarvis Landry and Kenny Stills along with Jay Ajayi at running back, Cutler should enjoy his new team in the Dolphins.
