2017 NFL Power Rankings: Where do Los Angeles Rams stand heading into Week 1 preseason?
By Dan Parzych
26. Los Angeles Chargers
One year after the Los Angeles Rams made the big move, the team will be sharing the city with the Los Angeles Chargers moving forward after the team made the big move from San Diego during the offseason. Just like their new city rivals, the Chargers are coming off a disappointing 2016 campaign in which the injury bug on both sides of the football limited them to winning just five games, and once again, the injuries have already piled up before preseason.
Only time will tell for whether rookie Mike Williams will be able to suit up to provide Philip Rivers with a new target to work with in the passing game, but losing second-round pick Forrest Lamp to a torn ACL was a devastating blow to the offensive line. Los Angeles had every reason in the world to feel excitement towards their two rookies, and while there’s some hope for Williams, it’s still frustrating for the team to deal with.
Then again, at least with Rivers still in the picture, the Chargers will most likely still end up being one of the most competitive teams in the NFL. Rivers may be getting up there in age, but when looking at the young weapons he gets to work with on offense, including Melvin Gordon, the sky seems to be the limit for the veteran quarterback.
