32. New York Jets (32)

Based off the last few months, it looks like the New York Jets will be rolling with veteran Josh McCown at quarterback once the regular season officially gets underway, which is a very questionable move for a team focusing on their “younger squad” moving forward. It would be one thing if the Jets wanted to go with a veteran like McCown to lead a team that was going to be a serious contender, but that’s not going to be the case for this unit.

Instead, New York would be better off using one of their younger quarterbacks, like Christian Hackenberg, to provide an opportunity to gain some experience in case they see potential down the road. For a quarterback who has received plenty of interesting criticism over the last few weeks, Hackenberg didn’t look all that bad against the Tennessee Titans after completing 18 of 25 passes for 127 yards.

Nothing against McCown, but he’s clearly far from the answer for this team when focusing on the big picture down the road, and by the Jets having him be the starter, it’s only going to hold them back from developing some of these other guys. Keep an eye on Hackenberg throughout the rest of the preseason since depending on how he performs, maybe New York would even consider giving him the chance to be the starter in Week 1.
