Rams begin to look for some consistency tonight in Oakland
By Steve Rivera
Head coach Sean McVay will begin to get his first team more work tonight, when the Los Angeles Rams play the Raiders in Week 2 of the 2017 preseason.
Los Angeles Rams fans can look for the first team to be on the field beyond just a few snaps. Tonight, against the Oakland Raiders, Jared Goff should get the added work he’ll need to begin building some game day experience with the unit he’ll spend 16 weeks with come September 10.

Also, Sean McVay will be looking to see the additional carries that a player like Todd Gurley may need to get all the engines firing leading up the Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts. The third year running back and one time Offensive Rookie Of The Year got only four touches last week. Next to Goff, neither did much but get on the field for an appearance. While the sophomore quarterback completed some passes, Gurley looked similar to the mess we saw in 2016.
I have to believe that fans, like McVay are looking to see what the Rams running game can be. Given the abyss Gurley fell into in last year, no one more than him is looking for the kind of rebound that can put him back in the discussion of top-tier running backs.
McVay also know how critical Gurley getting going is for Goff. Inexplicably, both are looking for a bit of redemption in Los Angeles. Rams fans are keenly aware that both are needing to succeed if this team is to begin the climb up from the lower division of the NFC West.
Tonight in Oakland, look for McVay to give both the kind of reps that can create that needed momentum as they build towards the beginning of the regular season. While it’s likely they will only play a quarter and then some this evening, it will be a good indicator of how camp has shaken out so far.
