1. Jared Goff and the Rams game plan

Don’t kid yourself. Jared Goff’s night was painfully short. Probably too short. Good news is that he and the rest of the first team will get a quarter’s worth of work in Oakland against the Raiders. Given most commentators reaction that Goff is in need of reps, the forecast for Saturday is really promising.

The second year quarterback went 3 of 4 for 34 yards. His night would have been remarkably unnoticeable had Robert Woods not fumbled a pass and Cooper Kupp recovers in the end zone for a Rams touchdown. Of course, such fate was precipitated by the Dallas Cowboys fumbling a punt return setting up the Goff highlight.

We’ll know a lot more after Week 2 of the preseason as recently acquired Sammy Watkins gets some time on Saturday with the first team. If reports are any indication, He is the tonic to a defense needing a kick-start.

This is a Goff team. Every single thing the Rams have done this offseason is an indicator of just that. It’ll be a good thing to see him get more snaps this weekend, and certainly in the dress rehearsal in Week 3.

Next week against the Los Angeles Chargers might be an indication of this team as it gets ready for 2017. Goff is running low on chances, and a game like this will buy him some needed credibility.

Goff needs it. So do Rams fans.

It may only be the second preseason game, but Los Angeles has some huge areas to address.

They get a chance to do just that tonight in Oakland.
