5 reasons Jared Goff could become dark horse MVP candidate for Los Angeles Rams
By Dan Parzych
1. Goff has new deep threat in Watkins
The Los Angeles Rams did an amazing job this offseason by building a better offense around Jared Goff in the passing game with the additions of Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp, but nothing compares to the surprise acquisition of Sammy Watkins from the Buffalo Bills. Football fans can say whatever they want about the concerns surrounding Watkins with his history of injuries, but if he stays healthy, just imagine the high level of potential for this offense.
Even though Watkins was quiet in his preseason debut with Los Angeles against the Oakland Raiders, keep in mind the wideout deserves some benefit of the doubt since he’s still warming up to Sean McVay‘s offense. Things may not have worked out for Watkins with the Bills, but there’s a reason the former Clemson standout was a high first-round pick back in 2015.

All of a sudden, Goff has a speedy deep threat to work with on offense, which is something the Rams have been lacking for a few years now. And while Woods and Kupp will play a key factor to Goff’s success during his second year with the Rams, nothing compares to the impact that Watkins will hopefully have if he manages to stay healthy while finally becoming the dangerous deep threat football fans have been waiting to see.
