4. How will Nelson Spruce perform?

Around this time last year, Nelson Spruce had worked his way into becoming a fan favorite after a surprise performance during his preseason debut with the Los Angeles Rams against the Dallas Cowboys. Even after suffering a knee injury during that same game that would prevent him from playing for the rest of preseason, the Rams felt confident enough in Spruce’s abilities to reward him with one of the roster spots, although he failed to appear in a single game during the regular season.

This time around, Spruce is fully healthy, and seemed to be a likely candidate to earn a roster spot once again, but the situation is much different this time around. As hard as it is to believe, Los Angeles is loaded with a ton of young potential at the wide receiver position, and there’s some speculation that Spruce could end up being the odd man out.

Not only did Spruce fail to record a single catch against the Oakland Raiders last weekend, but his six catches in the preseason opener against the Cowboys only went for 30 yards. And when seeing how much of an impact other receivers like Josh Reynolds and Mike Thomas have been making, it will be interesting to see how Spruce performs against the Los Angeles Chargers, as he hopes to make a stronger case for a roster spot.
