It’s the final week of preseason and the Los Angeles Rams are still up in the air when it comes to Aaron Donald.

The 2017 NFL preseason has been quite the roller coaster ride for the Los Angeles Rams when it comes to all of the action that has been taking place, but no story has been more important than the absence of Aaron Donald. Not seeing the Rams defensive superstar suit up at all for training camp and the preseason has been a major reason for concern heading into Wade Phillips first season at defensive coordinator.

Between leading the NFL in 2016 with 31 quarterback hits despite receiving extra attention from opponents to recording 28 sacks over his first three seasons in the league, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why Donald is fighting so hard for a new contract. However, the one thing that is surprising to see is that Los Angeles has one more preseason game remaining against the Green Bay Packers, and nobody within the organization seems to even have a single hint of a potential return date for Donald.

Obviously, this situation has to be even more frustrating for Sean McVay since this is his first season with the Rams, and the head coach already has enough on his plate when it comes to making sure his team is ready to go for the start of the regular season. And after seeing Los Angeles finish with a 4-12 record last year, McVay expected Donald to play a big part in making sure that didn’t happen again in 2017.

At least for Los Angeles, Phillips has always proven to be one of the best at what he does when it comes to coaching the defensive side of the football, and if anyone if capable of making the proper adjustments without Donald during the regular season to still make an impact, it’s him. With that being said, this whole situation with Donald’s holdout has turned into an unimaginable situation for Rams fans, and if this mess drags deep into the regular season, it’s going to be absolutely crushing for all parties.
