LOS ANGELES, CA – SEPTEMBER 17: Jared Goff /

Jared Goff went winless in 2016. The rookie quarterback posted an 0-7 record, meaning he hasn’t won a road game in his career. This season, the second year quarterback is 1-1 in two games at home.

On Thursday, Goff gets his first shot at a road win in addition to helping the Rams exact a little revenge on the Northern California team who swept them in 2017, including a 28-0 shutout to open the regular season last year.

Bottom line, if Los Angeles is going to challenge for an NFC West title, winning on the road will be part of the equation. It’ll also be key in the continued development of Goff.

San Francisco is no world beater. But as they showed last season, a season where the Rams beat the Seattle Seahawks in LA, and the Cardinals on the road in Glendale, losing to what ended up being the worst team in the division can certainly be done.

Twice, even.

LA needs to find a game in the West to steal when they are on the road while holding form at home. Unfortunately, they’ll swap one of those “home” games when they play the Cardinals in London, so beating a team like San Francisco, especially when the Rams are the better team, will be a key test for McVay and his still very young team.
