SANTA CLARA, CA – SEPTEMBER 21: Jared Goff /

The growth of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff through the first seven games is undeniable. As bad as his last seven were to wrap up 2016, is as good as his first were in 2017.

Thank you coach McVay.

But the road gets tougher from here on out, both literally and figuratively.

Goff, who has been at the helm offensively for the Rams and a 5-2 record, will enter Week 9 and the beginning of a brutal schedule that will ultimately define just how good he may be, and how far he can take Los Angeles this season.

LA had a very complete game when they shut out the Arizona Cardinals in London, 33-ZIP. Goff compiled a stat line of 22 for 37, 235 yards with one touchdown and an interception. He also rushed for a touchdown. Not spectacular, but very efficient and businesslike.

That may ultimately be Goff, and that is a net positive for the Rams.

One thing we know, and listening to McVay talk about this on FOX NFL pregame shows, is Goff isn’t fazed by much. Knowing that, and knowing that he’ll have adversity at some point during the next nine games, will bode well for the Rams as they continue on the road.

Look for McVay to enhance the playbook for Goff beginning in New York and Week 9. It’s been a strategy to measure out situations where Goff can be successful.

That’s worked well for the Rams, too.
