Believe it or not, there is a way the Los Angeles Rams can clinch a playoff berth on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Around this time last season, never in a million years could Los Angeles Rams have imagined their team would be in this current position siting at 9-3 heading into their Week 14 meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles. Then again, it’s safe to say Eagles fans feel the same exact way when considering their beloved team still seemed to be at least another year or two away from being serious contenders in the NFC under Carson Wentz, making it easy to see why there’s all of a sudden so much hype surrounding this surprise battle.

Back in the offseason, the Rams made a bold decision by making Sean McVay the youngest NFL coach in history, and it’s only taken the former offensive coordinator 12 games to prove that it was clearly the right move when looking at the impact he’s made on offense. To see Los Angeles make a huge leap by averaging 14 points per game in 2016 to more than 30 this season was completely unexpected, and shows how quick of an impact McVay was able to make right away.

Not to mention, the Rams as an organization deserve plenty of credit as well for the quick turnaround since none of this could have happened without all of the key additions in the offseason ranging from signing Andrew Whitworth in free agency to selecting guys like Cooper Kupp in the NFL Draft. And as much as Los Angeles wants to make a statement about where they currently stand in the NFC with a win over Philadelphia, McVay’s squad could be playing with a little extra motivation since they actually have an opportunity to clinch a playoff berth, depending on a few factors.

Yes, those are a lot of factors to take into consideration when looking at how much help the Rams will need from other NFL teams in order to make this happen, but also keep in mind it’s still way early to clinch since there are technically four games remaining. Still, when looking at how long it’s been since Los Angeles (or St. Louis as well) was actually a playoff contender, this is excited news for not just the team, but also the fans.

At least with the Atlanta Falcons scheduled to take on the New Orleans Saints on Thursday, the Rams will know well before Sunday on whether they can actually clinch a playoff berth with a win over the Eagles. If not, well there’s no reason to make a big deal since Los Angeles will still have three other games to do so.
