Eagles fans invading more than the game vs Rams, but it could backfire
By Tony Lopez
Eagles fans planned a proud march around Los Angeles long ago. But they didn’t expect ‘possible rain’ on their parade, as the Los Angeles Rams have playoff aspirations of their own.
Back in June I learned that local Philadelphia Eagles fans and groups in Los Angeles were mobilizing for a Week 14 takeover. I promptly informed my fellow Los Angeles Rams fans family and friends and got quite a response, especially throughout social media. In fact, one Rams group quickly gave me the boot for starting a [social media style] riot.
Well, here I go again.
The thing is, this city just recently got its football team back. Some Rams fans here are fairly new to the mad mad NFL world of passionate love and war where all is fair. If I were one of them I’d want to know why so many opposing fans are boldly walking around my city the entire weekend like they owned it.
Yes, you heard me. This isn’t just game day, December 10th. It’s a weekend-long takeover and celebration, of sorts. And it’s not just a local thing.
Philly fans have booked various hotels citywide and plan to be all over the city this weekend leading up to the game. No doubt, a game they were certain would be an easy win back in June. They’ve also booked the Santa Monica Pier game day for what is called, “The Festival” and plan to hit Venice Beach as well. Additionally mentioned is a conjoined YouTube event that I’m sure will be posted for all to see.
For Philly fans this is nothing new.
Showing up at road games loud and proud is what Philly fans do. We’re only now knowing of it on such a broad borderline-insulting scale. If you search, you’ll easily find the October takeover of their game versus the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers weren’t the first or last. And in listening to their fans or fans of other teams at games or sportsbars throughout Los Angeles, Eagles fans are said to be a bit too rude and obnoxious.
Personally, I don’t mind fans supporting their teams as passionately as I do. However, they want to make this an annual Los Angeles event with growing numbers every year. The game is one thing, but citywide. Can you imagine?
They might be in for a rude awakening.
They way I see it, the Eagles were not impressive enough last week to warrant a weekend party celebration post-game against the Los Angeles Rams. And if the recent wildfires haven’t affected preparations much, I fully expect the Rams to do themselves proud…at least, that’s how I’ll express how bad I want the Rams to win in print.
Next: 3 predictions for Rams and Eagles in Week 14
One thing I’m certain of, the city of Philadelphia would not lie down and take it as calmly if Los Angeles imposed on it annually. I repeat, can you imagine?
No, I’m not looking to start a riot but I am urging any and all Angelenos to get out and represent, both at the game and wherever you go the days leading up to game time. Send them back to Philadelphia (or their local fans home) with a bad taste in their mouths. And let’s make victory over the Eagles a regular event. We are the Rams and they’ll be at the Los Angeles Coliseum. Not StubHub Center.
