Browns cutting Britt shows Rams made right choice moving on from wideout
By Dan Parzych
After his recent release from the Cleveland Browns, it’s safe to say the Los Angeles Rams made the right decision to move on from Kenny Britt in the offseason.
Despite being the first wide receiver to break the 1,000-yard mark since Torry Holt in 2007 for the team last season, the Los Angeles Rams were in a tough position in the offseason when it came to Kenny Britt. Leading the Rams in receiving yards last season was certainly one of very few positives surrounding this team, but when looking at the kind of money Britt was looking for as a free agent, giving in to the wideout’s demands would have been absolutely foolish for this team.
Instead of coming back for another year in Los Angeles, Britt ended up signing a four-year, $32.5 million deal with the Cleveland Browns, who only recorded one win all of last season in Hue Jackson‘s first year as head coach. Seeing a veteran wideout like Britt join another struggling team in the Browns made it clear this deal was all about the money, but it looks like the real joke was on the former Rutgers product.
Believe it or not, Cleveland didn’t even need a full regular season to realize what a mistake it was to bring Britt on board after cutting the wideout last week, which coincidentally came on John Dorsey’s first day as general manager for the organization. Yes, the argument can be made that Britt deserves some benefit of the doubt when looking at all of the quarterback issues this team is dealing with, but also seeing him make all of that money with only 18 catches in nine games makes it clear why the decision was made.

Thank goodness the Rams didn’t make the mistake the Browns did with Britt since the offense is clearly much better off without him thanks to all of the changes made ranging from the signing of Robert Woods to even trading for Sammy Watkins. If anything, Britt on the roster for Los Angeles most likely would have held Jared Goff and company back from being in this current position near the top of the league when it comes to points per game, so give credit to the Rams for avoiding this situation during free agency since it obviously would have been a huge mistake.
