When looking at the type of season Aaron Donald has put together with the Los Angeles Rams, defensive coordinator Wade Phillips believes he deserves consideration for the MVP award.

Words can’t even describe how valuable Aaron Donald has been to the Los Angeles Rams since coming on board in 2014, as the former Pittsburgh standout wasted no time working his way up to being one of the league’s top defensive players in the league. In fact, with the recent news surrounding Donald’s agents currently in discussion for a possible long-term deal would be amazing for the Rams since the superstar would be worth every penny of whatever contract he earns down the road, even if they do have to make him the league’s highest-paid player.

Just look at what went down for Donald during last weekend’s game against the Seattle Seahawks in which he was an absolute nightmare for the offense line while sacking Russell Wilson a total of three times. And with those three sacks, Donald was able to tie his career high (11) with two games remaining against the Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers, meaning it’s most likely only a matter of time before that new personal best is set.

For the most part, Todd Gurley and Jared Goff have been the two members of Los Angeles to see their name thrown into the MVP conversation when looking at the kind of numbers the duo has been able to put up on offense. But according to defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, Donald deserves to be part of the conversation as well, and rightfully so when looking at what he’s been able to accomplish during his fourth season with the Rams.

For anyone thinking this is a ridiculous claim, keep in mind that Donald’s impressive numbers from this season come despite the fact that he tends to receive extra attention from opponents to prevent him from getting to the quarterback. In other words, the argument can be made that Donald’s numbers could be a lot higher, but also this extra attention has benefitted some of his teammates to get to opposing quarterbacks themselves.

Unfortunately, the chances of Donald taking home the MVP award when looking at all of the other candidates seems unlikely, but at least Rams fans understand just how valuable he is to this defense. And with Los Angeles being on the verge of securing a trip to the postseason, there’s going to be a lot of excitement surrounding Donald to help this team make a serious run come January.
