Rams win at Tennessee is rich in irony

The Los Angeles Rams 27-23 win at Tennessee not only clinched the NFC West for LA, but served as a reminder of what a difference a year makes.

There is something both timely and appropriate in the Los Angeles Rams win at Tennessee yesterday. Especially on the heels of the proclamations and assessments by former head coach Jeff Fisher and assistant Dave McGinnes. While this is no rehash of those arrogant and short sighted comments, LA winning in Music City is worth a heart laugh as those are old stomping grounds for the idiot Fisher.

Imagine how he must have felt watching “his roster” with better coaching, and watching them not just win, but clinch their division.

Imagine what he thought watching Jared Goff play like last season was only a bad dream, or Todd Gurley posting another stat line of MVP like numbers.

Mostly, think of the knot in his stomach when he realized “his roster” was being managed to perfection by a 31 year old upstart who is now the template other franchises will use as a blueprint to turning it around in their city.

I don’t think those teams will find Fisher cut from that type of winning cloth.

The only way yesterday’s win is anymore satisfying is if it happens in Seattle. But given the shocking and asinine comments from last week, bringing it home in Tennessee where Fisher once coached, and the city that was part of the trade that would bring Goff to Los Angeles isn’t bad either.

It just seemed fitting.

The right win, in the right city, at the right time with the former head man watching from a luxury box.

The Rams didn’t just clinch a division title yesterday. They earned it by being better at least 11 times this season than their opponents, having better personnel, and most importantly, a better coach than the last five seasons.

What a difference a year makes.

Next: Jeff Fisher doesn't get it

Winning next week at home against a surging San Francisco 49ers would mean Los Angeles, who finished 2016 with a record of 4-12, could finish 2017 with a record of 12-4.

Irony can be funny that way.

Which makes Fishers comments last week all the more funnier today.
