Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley was recently named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row after another monster performance against the Tennessee Titans.

Fantasy football owners that were fortunate enough to select Todd Gurley at the beginning of the season were most likely celebrating a championship this past weekend when looking at the insane numbers the Los Angeles Rams running back put up over the last two weeks. As if finding the end zone four times against the Seattle Seahawks wasn’t impressive enough, the former Georgia standout topped that performance by recording 276 yards from the line of scrimmage to go along with two touchdowns.

Of course, the most important factor on Gurley’s end is both of these performances played a big part in Los Angeles earning two key wins before eventually clinching the NFC West title for the first time since the 2003 season. Not to mention, Gurley’s high level of play continues to make a strong case for the running back earning MVP honors for the 2017 season, especially when looking at his NFC Offensive Player of the Week awards.

As the team site discussed on Wednesday, Gurley is the first player in franchise history to earn the honor in back-to-back weeks, which is quite impressive when considering there were some fans questioning his ability to handle the duties in the backfield heading into 2017. For a team that only won four games all of last year while averaging just 14 points per game, Gurley received a ton of unfair criticism for his struggles last season after failing to record a single 100-yard rushing game since the Rams had a poor offense in general, including numerous weaknesses on the offensive line.

However, it appears all of those struggles would end up being worth it in the long run since Los Angeles has worked their way into being one of the top teams to beat in the NFC with an opportunity to make a deep run in January. Who knows, maybe if Gurley continues to put up ridiculous numbers like he has as of late, the Rams will actually have a shot at earning a trip to the Super Bowl, but for now, the best thing to do for Sean McVay‘s squad is to take things one step at a time to avoid losing focus.
