Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay looks to be leaning towards resting players against another hot NFC West team in the San Francisco 49ers, leaving a lot of LA fans less than pleased.
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay may be looking to sit some key starters when LA plays the San Francisco 49ers to wrap-up the 2017 regular season on Sundat. The Rams hung on in a shootout to beat the Niners way back in Week 3, 41-39.
How long ago does that Thursday Night game feel like, huh?
Fast forward to Week 17, and the Rams are on deck for a playoff appearance, and some very possible postseason honors, and also a shot at 12 wins on the 2017 season.
As I have written, in a season that has seen every expectation exceeded tenfold, and after 4-12 in 2016, Los Angeles is staring down the barrel of flipping the script and going 12-4.
I believe that means something for a fan base that hasn’t filled the Coliseum this year and lost a home game to London.
But in the wake of news that head coach McVay may be sitting some key players, and facing a December surge from Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers, it’s reasonable to wonder whether it is, or is not, a smart thing to sit Rams players or if winning a twelfth game is even meaningful.
It is, or at least should be, especially for a fan base who endured the one year Jeff Fisher era in LA, or those who still follow from St. Louis.
And for those ‘experts’ who scoff at things like ill-matching uniforms, or the local fan who goes without eight home games to fulfill a relocation deal so Roger Goodell can hopscotch Europe, spare me.
Truth is, I’d like to see them go and get 12 wins, Todd Gurley close the door on Tom Brady for MVP, and leave no doubt that McVay should be Coach of the Year and Fisher should NEVER coach again.
Lastly, while I’d rather see them finish on the field rather than on the sidelines, I get it, and I don’t know whether he is or is not making the right choice.

Neither scenario is an envious one for the first year head coach, or guarantees much of anything.
Wins, losses, and injuries happen regardless of whatever McVay ultimately does.
Which probably makes Week 17 between the Niners and the Los Angeles Rams about as inconsequential as the Cactus Bowl, except to the guy who pays $100.00 to park a mile from the Coliseum to watch.
