Win or lose in Week 17, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay is still the best candidate for NFL Coach of the Year.

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay may have made an unpopular decision for LA’s Week 17 game against division rival San Francisco. That said, it’s hard to find an argument for him to NOT be the NFL Coach of the Year.

Certainly Doug Pederson in Philadelphia and Mike Zimmer in Minnesota are worthy candidates. But sine looking at the train wreck inherited by McVay with the Rams, it’s hard to argue against his impact in such a short amount of time.

Worthy of note, is how all three coaches have teams headed to the postseason with quarterbacks who were or did fail miserably under former Rams head coach Jeff Fisher. When the 2017 regular and postseason history is written, the curious ability to connect the dots from failure to success with a common origin of Fisher will be interesting.

Except for Fisher himself.

From 4-12 to either 11-5 or 12-4 is an accomplishment of significance when knowing how average this team has been. When looking alone at 2016 and the disappointment of key 2017 players like Jared Goff and Todd Gurley alone, what he’s done is worthy of Coach of the Year honors.

The Los Angeles Rams were due. And as the franchise continues to stake a needed claim in Southern California, the value of this first year head coach continues to climb.

After several years below .500, and an offense mired in the NFL cellar statistically speaking, the accomplishments this season dictate the award go to the up and comer who’s 31 years of age bely what he’s done in such a short amount of time.

Even Fisher himself can’t claim to be a part of that success.
