The first quarter of the 2017 season saw the Rams get off to a hot start.
Los Angeles opened with a win at home against Indianapolis 46-9, a loss against the Redskins 27-20, and a crazy win, shootout style- with NFC West rival San Francisco 41-39.
But it was Week 4 that proved the first of a few “statement games” that would show LA was more than just a curiosity.
After a video like game performance against the 49ers- a win on the road, that the Rams played a Dallas Cowboys team that, as always, was a media favorite.
Early prognosticators, myself included, forecasted a safe 2-2 record to open the season. As a matter of fact, I thought it possibly the Rams could open with three straight win, and a likely loss to then Super Bowl favorite Dallas.
Oddly enough, it was a different NFC East team, Washington, that would hand LA it’s first loss.
The Rams would struggle early, but halftime adjustments on the defensive side of the football would lead to a 35-30 win that served as a springboard to what would be a Titanic like turnaround in Los Angeles.
While the Cowboys ended up washing out by the holidays, and it can be argued that in hindsight it wasn’t such a “statement” game given where Dallas ended up, it showed that the Rams could play AND win on a big stage.
