Once again, it looks like the Washington Redskins are going to be in for another interesting offseason when looking at all of the uncertainty surrounding the team, mainly what the future holds for Kirk Cousins. After using the franchise tag on the quarterback in each of the last two seasons, it would be quite expensive for the Redskins to use it on Cousins for a third year in a row, meaning there’s a good chance he hits free agency to explore his options.

Of course, if that does end up happening, and Cousins ends up elsewhere due to a better offer, Washington may be forced to use this first-round pick on a new quarterback to build the franchise around. But until the Redskins figure out what their quarterback situation is going to look like, defense seems to be a safe bet for now.

Safety is one of the few positions Washington will be looking to address, and when seeing how Derwin James established himself as one of the top defenders in the country this season by leading Florida State, the Redskins would be lucky to have him. There aren’t many safeties that can make the kind of big hits James is capable of, and joining the Redskins could result in the Seminoles star earning a starting job right away on a defense that will hopefully show signs of improvement in 2018.
