2018 NFL Mock Draft: Los Angeles Rams select Donte Jackson first round
By Dan Parzych
Speaking of teams with questions at the quarterback position, the New York Jets need to finally realize that Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg is far from the answer for this team on offense, meaning it’s finally time to use a first rounder on a talented quarterback. Depending on what happens with the first five picks, there’s a good chance that Darnold and Rosen will both be off the board by the time the Jets are on the clock.
However, the one quarterback that will most likely still be available at No. 6 is Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield, who seems well ready to take his game to a whole new level by joining the NFL, even if he is drawing early comparisons to Johnny Manziel for his maturity issues. But unlike Manziel, Mayfield’s talent seems to be on a completely different level, and seeing the numbers he’s put together over the last three seasons with the Sooners will back it up.
Mayfield’s play-making abilities are a big reason why he was able to toss 119 touchdown passes with just 21 interceptions during his final three years with Oklahoma. And even though the Jets’ offense doesn’t have the talent level as the Sooners, at least Mayfield would be a start when it comes to building a better offense around the gunslinger.
