After earning Coach of the Year honors, the Los Angeles Rams continue to show hiring Sean McVay was an amazing move last January.
Even though their season ended quicker than expected, the Los Angeles Rams have plenty to be proud of from Sean McVay‘s first year as head coach, and Saturday night was just another example of how bright the future is for this team. On the night before the Super Bowl, McVay (Coach of the Year) along with Todd Gurley (Offensive Player of the Year) and Aaron Donald (Defensive Player of the Year) helped the Rams make history by being the first team to claim these three awards in the same year, showing once again how a small risk ended up becoming a huge award.
As exciting as the hiring was, there were some doubters that criticized Los Angeles for hiring someone the age of McVay since he was now the youngest head coach in NFL history. Despite all of his previous success with helping the Washington Redskins get the best out of Kirk Cousins, taking on a head coaching role would be a whole new ball game for someone like McVay.
Turns out, McVay was ready to be a head coach all along when looking at how quickly he changed the culture of the Rams by taking a team coming off a four-win season, and having them emerge as NFC West champions before falling to the Atlanta Falcons in the Wild Card Round. For a new head coach that was expected to go through a year or two of rebuilding, what McVay was able to accomplish this season from helping Gurley and Jared Goff elevate their games to a whole new level along with helping Los Angeles make NFL history by going from worst to first in scoring has truly been amazing.

Sure, the argument can be made that Doug Pederson should have taken Coach of the Year honors when looking at what he’s been able to accomplish with the Philadelphia Eagles. But when seeing what kind of team McVay was forced to work with, it’s difficult to takeaway from what the Rams head coach was able to put together this season, and Saturday’s honors just adds to the long list of amazing accomplishments from year one.
