Rams better be ready to reward Goff when time comes thanks to Garoppolo

Thanks to the San Francisco 49ers signing Jimmy Garoppolo to a record deal, the Los Angeles Rams better be ready to pay up for Jared Goff down the road.
With the offseason officially in full swing for the Los Angeles Rams, the team has plenty of big decisions to make over the next few months when it comes to the future of certain players, such as Tavon Austin and Sammy Watkins. But no matter what happens over the next few months, the good news for the Rams is they know that Jared Goff will be ready to go heading into his third season looking to help his team defend their NFC West title.
Of course, that’s always easier said than done for a team like Los Angeles since all of a sudden, all four teams from the division seem capable of making a run to win the NFC West. While the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals are already expected to make a run as usual, the San Francisco 49ers will also be a threat thanks to the presence of Jimmy Garoppolo.
In the middle of last season, the 49ers made the easy decision to acquire Garoppolo from the New England Patriots since Kyle Shanahan was still in search of a quarterback to build the franchise around since Brian Hoyer was only the short-term answer. And after Garoppolo’s record-setting deal from this week, the potential is there for Garoppolo and Shanahan to make San Francisco serious contenders in the NFC for years to come.
Signing a quarterback with seven career starts to a whopping contract like this was a bold move for the 49ers, but also the organization knew it was necessary since they didn’t want to risk Garoppolo hitting the open market. As for how this move impacts Los Angeles, well let’s just say not only will San Francisco be a contender in the NFC West for years to come thanks to Garoppolo, but Goff has to be licking his chops over what his next contract could possibly look like.

Even though the Rams have a little bit of time before having to worry about a new deal for Goff since the quarterback just wrapped up his second NFL season, the organization better be ready to open up the checkbooks. After Goff elevated his game to a whole new level in 2017 by leading Los Angeles to the NFC West title along with earning a trip to the Pro Bowl, the former No. 1 pick will be looking for a massive payday when the time comes, and the recent Garoppolo deal just gave him even more leverage to work with.
