The Los Angeles Rams continue to be aggressive this offseason as they trade for Aqib Talib, giving LA perhaps the best defensive backfield in the National Football League.

The Los Angeles Rams have acquired cornerback Aqib Talib from the Denver Broncos. According to reports, Denver will receive a 2018 fifth-round pick for the veteran who is due $11 million this season and another $8 million in 2019.

The move for Talib continues a whirlwind of activity for the Rams who also acquired Marcus Peters last week, and defensive back Sam Shields earlier on Thursday. Los Angeles, who looks to be ‘all in’ on stockpiling defensive talent, will be an absolute beast come the 2018 season.

Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips is now in possession of one of the league’s most talented cornerbacks to ride tandem to Peters, who was in Kansas City last season.

Talib played in 15 games in 2017, missing only one game for a fight with Michael Crabtree of the Oakland Raiders. That said, he racked up 31 tackles, one interception, broke up seven passes, and had one forced fumble, all leading to another Pro Bowl appearance.

Without question, this acquisition gives the Rams one of league’s premier defensive backfields in the National Football League, anchored by the league’s best defensive player in Aaron Donald.

Los Angeles continues on the kind of trajectory that will certainly make them a favorite not just in the NFC West, but a legitimate Super Bowl threat as soon as next season.

It also opens the door to a ton of possibilities come the 2018 NFL Draft. The Rams, who were looking to certainly go heavy on defense come draft time, now have some intriguing options, including drafting on offense, particularly for an aging line that will need to duplicate an impressive season protecting quarterback Jared Goff.

Either way, Los Angeles continues an aggressive offseason for a team who looks to be making all the right moves.
