SEATTLE, WA - DECEMBER 17: Running back Todd Gurley

With the Los Angeles Rams figuring out their contract situation with Aaron Donald, at least Todd Gurley has a patient mindset for when his time comes.

Busy doesn’t even begin to describe what this offseason has been like for the Los Angeles Rams when it comes to all of the key moves made, ranging from the signing of Ndamukong Suh to the recent acquisition of Brandin Cooks from the New England Patriots. However, Rams fans seem to be frustrated over the fact that Aaron Donald is still without a contract at this point in the offseason, but at least the situation with Todd Gurley appears to be a different story.

While Los Angeles fans are beginning to fear another possible holdout from Donald like last year if he doesn’t receive the contract he clearly deserves, Gurley at least seems to be in the mindset that his time will come, as long as he’s patient. During a recent interview with Alex Marvez and Gil Brandt on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Gurley made it clear that he understands Donald deserves to be the main focus at the moment when it comes to which Rams deserve new contracts, showing just how great of a teammate he truly is.

After falling just shy of earning MVP honors last season to Tom Brady, Gurley deserves plenty of credit for taking this mindset since he fully understands his time for a hefty pay raise will come down the road. As great as it for Los Angeles to have all these young weapons to work with from Gurley to Donald to make them serious Super Bowl contenders, paying all of them at the same time would obviously be too tough.

By understanding the importance of the Rams focusing on Donald right now, Gurley knows this will give the team their best chance of living up to the hype of being serious Super Bowl contenders. What Los Angeles has been able to put together since Sean McVay came on board has truly been special, and if all goes according to plan, this team has the opportunity to be a legitimate threat for years to come.

If year one in McVay’s system is any indication of what to expect moving forward, all signs point to Gurley continuing to be one of the league’s top running backs for years to come. So with the main focus for this season being on Donald’s new deal, give Gurley credit for being patient to benefit the team as a whole.
