As the 2018 NFL draft presses on, the Los Angeles Rams make the most of their sixth round opportunities adding to their offensive line depth.

The Los Angeles Rams wild day continues as they select offensive guard/tackle Jamil Demby out of University of Maine at 192 overall.  This is the third depth offensive lineman the Rams have drafted this weekend, taking OT Joseph Noteboom in the third and C Brian Allen in the fourth.  Demby continues the theme of Snead and company drafting intelligent players who have a history of starting a lot of games and who played in the Senior Bowl.

Why does this makes sense?

LA’s offensive line was great last season, but several of those pieces are long in the tooth.  OT Andrew Whitworth will turn 37 during the 2018 season and C John Sullivan will turn 33, but has struggled with injuries in his career.  In addition, though OG Roger Saffold is in his prime, he becomes a free agent next offseason.  Demby allows for future flexibility as contracts expire and the Rams have need to plug new bodies into the group up front.  He also brings good footwork and technique with him to the NFC West.

Where does Demby need to grow?  Though he has good size (6′ 4″, 319lbs), Demby needs to get stronger with only 17 bench reps at the combine, which was a disappointing week for him.  He needs a year of development before he is ready to contribute at the NFL level, where he probably projects as a guard.

In the end, Demby is a solid developmental prospect at this range in the draft and helps add to a nice draft class for the Rams.  Offensive line coach Aaron Kromer has some talent in camp to mold and develop for the future.
