The Los Angeles Rams look to be headed down the wrong road with Aaron Donald.

First, for all those fans who have it figured out between the Los Angeles Rams and defensive superstar Aaron Donald, stand down.

You don’t have it figured out. If you did, you’d be bff’s with Rams owner Stan Kroenke, or best buds with COO Kevin Demoff.

Odds are that isn’t the case.

But an interesting tweet I saw probably said it best when a fan noted the cost of the Inglewood stadium deal being well north of $4 billion, and Donald is still waiting on a new contract to replace the rookie one he outgrew a few season ago.

Makes sense, right?

I mean, Kroenke is building the Taj Mahal of all NFL stadiums, the kind that will be the envy of pro sports owners, and the best defensive player in the league waits, and waits, and waits.

The Rams are walking a tightrope.

Here they are, post an 11-5 season, after a flurry of free agent signings and trades, all geared to win NOW, openly talking about how anxious they are to sign a receiver (Brandin Cooks), and a guy who’s been here his entire, albeit relatively brief NFL career, can’t get paid.

At least not yet.

Did I mention he’s the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year?

Donald will get done, it’s assumed. But with each passing day he’s the number one question of the talking points players will confront whenever the media is in front of them.

He’s the story again.

Sooner rather than later, Los Angeles runs the risk of looking like they can’t get the easy one done. Of ignoring the guy who should have been taken care of. No matter what they do this season, if their best player, which Donald is, can’t get paid, it becomes the pink elephant in the room.

The Los Angeles Rams run the risk of missing the easy lay-up.

The clock is ticking fellas.
