When looking at how dominant the offense was during the first year under Sean McVay, just imagine what 2018 has in store for the Los Angeles Rams.
One of the main reasons why the Los Angeles Rams hired Sean McVay during the 2017 offseason was due to his previous experience as offensive coordinator with the Washington Redskins.
If McVay was able to help Kirk Cousins elevate his game to a whole new level, the Rams were hoping the new head coach could do the same with Jared Goff, which was exactly the case.
After dealing with all of the struggles as a rookie, McVay’s offense was able to help Goff reach his true potential during the 2017 season by helping Los Angeles make NFL history by going from worst to first in scoring. To top it off, Goff would go on to earn his first trip to the Pro Bowl along with the Rams winning the NFC West title, making it clear that McVay was the right hire.

Hiring McVay as the youngest head coach in NFL history at the time drew a lot of criticism towards Los Angeles, but none of that matters anymore, as the team is now considered one of the early favorites to make a serious run at the Super Bowl.
While the expectations for the offense have hit a whole new level this offseason after last year, let’s not forget the Rams’ defense made all sorts of moves as well over the last few months to put the team in a better position to live up to the hype.
Between completing trades for Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters to give the defense a new duo at cornerback to the surprise signing of Ndamukong Suh when he became available, Wade Phillips has to be licking his chops over this unit’s potential in 2018.
In fact, as ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry discussed on Wednesday, the Rams’ defense is getting an early taste of just how dangerous their teammates on offense can be in McVay’s system by having to face the unit this week during OTAs.

When Los Angeles fans hear talented cornerbacks like Talib and Peters describe McVay’s offense as “crazy” in a good way, this just adds to the list of excitement for the team heading into the 2018 season. As mentioned before, the expectations were already high for the Rams on defense, and when seeing the benefits of them practicing against McVay’s high-powered offense, it’s only going to make the unit stronger.
