As the Los Angeles Rams continue to prepare for the upcoming season, Todd Gurley understands the importance of moving on from 2017.

Isn’t it amazing how quickly expectations can change for a team like the Los Angeles Rams in just one year? Around this time last offseason, the Rams were coming off a four-win season, and expected to go through at least a year of rebuilding under Sean McVay, who was hired after Jeff Fisher was fired as the youngest head coach in NFL history.

Taking a risk on a young coach like McVay was obviously a huge risk at the time, but when seeing how quickly Los Angeles became an immediate threat in the NFC, it was obviously a risk worth taking.

Flash forward to this point in the offseason, the Rams are considered one of the early favorites to make a serious run at the Super Bowl, and rightfully so when looking at all of the talent they have to work with on both sides of the football.

From boosting the defensive line by signing Ndamukong Suh to acquiring another speedy deep threat for Jared Goff to work with in Brandin Cooks, it’s easy to see why Los Angeles is one of the early favorites.

Not to mention, expectations are high once again for Todd Gurley in the backfield after the former Offensive Rookie of the Year put together his best season in 2017 after finishing with 2,093 yards from the line of scrimmage to go along with 19 total touchdowns. And if that wasn’t impressive enough, it should also be noted that Gurley finished second in the MVP voting to Tom Brady, although many believe the Rams running back clearly deserved the honors.

Without question, what Gurley was able to accomplish last season was truly amazing, and his elite level of play in 2018 will play a big role in whether Los Angeles can live up to the Super Bowl hype.

However, Gurley is well aware that just because he found all of that success last season doesn’t necessarily guarantee it will happen again, which is why it’s kind of a relief to see him put it in the past.

As recently discussed in an interview, Gurley seemed to make it pretty clear that he has already moved on from what took place in 2017, and is taking the correct approach by focusing on this upcoming season instead.

Obviously, Gurley can use some of the footage from last season to build off the success he had on the Rams’ offense, but also it’s good to see him with this mindset.

Thanks to this approach, Gurley will hopefully be extra motivated to match last year’s success, if not better, while putting Los Angeles in the best position possible to live up to the hype in the NFC. If this does happen, maybe Gurley will end up winning the MVP as well instead of finishing in second like last year, although the Rams winning games is what really matters the most.
