Los Angeles Rams fans would love nothing more than to see Aaron Donald receive a new deal before the start of training camp.

With the start of training camp set to begin next week, the Los Angeles Rams made a bold move on Tuesday by rewarding new wideout Brandin Cooks with a hefty five-year, $80 million extension. What makes this situation even more surprising is the fact that Cooks was willing to commit for the long run despite not even playing a single game yet, showing just how much confidence the speedster has in the Rams.

Acquiring Cooks from the New England Patriots was a move that seems like will pay off in a big way for Los Angeles since he’s arguably an upgrade over Sammy Watkins.

Ever since the deal was in place, Les Snead seemed to make it clear that his goal was to lock Cooks up for the long run to avoid the risk of this turning into a one-year rental, but now the pressure comes to get a deal done for Donald.

Around this time last offseason, the Rams were dealing with an unhappy Donald after the defensive superstar ended up holding out all of training camp and preseason while fighting for a new contract, which he never received.

Obviously, the circumstances are much different this time around since Donald is entering the final year of his contract, and Los Angeles doesn’t want to risk making him unhappy again, but it looks like there may be some hope over a new deal happening sooner rather than later.

Turns out, Donald reportedly has been telling some friends how he anticipates a deal getting done before the start of training camp, which would be the best case scenario for the Rams.

Until a deal gets in place, Los Angeles fans aren’t going to feel better about this whole contract situation with Donald, but at least this is some positive news since there was some concern yesterday about the situation after Cooks received his extension.

Some fans will question why the Rams will addressed Cooks before Donald, but as long as both players are happy with new deals heading into training camp, this is all that really matters.

Hopefully, Jason La Canfora’s report ends up being true to avoid any possible distraction that may come into play if Donald threatens to holdout so Los Angeles can focus on what’s most important, which is living up to the hype of being a legitimate Super Bowl contender in the NFC.
