Los Angeles Rams: 30 greatest players in franchise history
By Dan Parzych
Making the Pro Bowl as a rookie can be one of the most difficult challenges in the NFL. Linebacker Isiah Robertson did so with the the Rams in 1971. This was the perfect way to begin what ended up being a stellar football career for him. He did end up when Defensive Rookie of the Year that same fall.
Los Angeles set the bar high for linebacker right away that year after using a first-round pick on Robertson. Despite spending the last four seasons of his career with the Buffalo Bills, he’ll always be remembered for what he was able to accomplish with the Rams from 1971-78.
As impressive as it was to see Robertson earn a trip to the Pro Bowl as a rookie, it should also be noted that he made the Pro Bowl in six of his first seven seasons in the NFL. This is impressive for any player, no matter what position.
During those first seven seasons in Los Angeles, Robertson managed to record 18 interceptions. While it was difficult to see the Rams eventually trade him to the Buffalo Bills before the 1979 season, fans will always remember him for his strong defensive mindset.
Robertson’s blazing speed always gave him a major advantage over opponents each week. Like a few other players already discussed, Robertson was one of the main reasons why the Rams’ defense was so dominant in the 1970’s.
He may never have been fortunate enough to win a Super Bowl, but at least his days with Los Angeles shows why he was considered one of the top linebackers by many at the time.
