3. player. 51. . Running Back. (1983-87). Eric Dickerson

Ridiculous doesn’t even begin to describe the kind of numbers Eric Dickerson put up at the beginning of his NFL career as the Rams’ star running back. He led the league in rushing yards during each of his first two seasons out of SMU in 1983 and 1984.

It was one thing to see Dickerson finish his rookie year in 1983 with 1,808 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns, but seeing him rush for 2,105 yards with 14 touchdowns the following season was absolutely crazy.

If all of this wasn’t impressive enough, let’s not forget that Dickerson recorded at least 2,000 yards from the line of scrimmage in three of his first four NFL seasons. This just shows how much of a nightmare he was for opposing defenses since he was nearly impossible to keep in check.

The Rams traded Dickerson to the Indianapolis Colts in the middle of the 1987 season. This was because the two parties were struggling to come to an agreement over his contract. However, Dickerson continues to be involved with the organization long after his playing days with the team. This shows how much the Rams truly appreciate him both on and off the field.

Not only will Dickerson always be considered one of the greatest players of all-time for the organization, but also one of the best running backs the NFL has ever seen.

Only seven running backs have ever crossed the 2,000-yard rushing mark. Dickerson managed to do so during his second NFL season. This was truly incredible, even if the Rams were eliminated right away in the playoffs.
