Punter. (2012-present). Johnny Hekker. 29. player. 51.

Members of special teams don’t always receive the necessary respect and recognition they deserve in the NFL. When it comes to Johnny Hekker, it’s safe to say the punter is one of the most popular players on the team.

Not only has Hekker made a case to be one of the league’s best punters over the years, but when seeing how he interacts with his teammates, other members of the Rams will most likely say he’s one of the goofiest players as well.

During all those years prior to 2017 where the Rams were considered one of the biggest laughing stocks in the NFL, Hekker was one of the few bright spots from the team when seeing how effective he was on special teams.

Seeing Hekker earn four trips to the Pro Bowl over the last five seasons shows just how special of a player he is. There’s every reason to believe he’s going to continue earning trips as long as he manages to stay healthy.

Hekker’s production in 2017 may have been down when compared to previous season. However, do keep in mind that this was due to the Rams emerging as one of the top scoring units in the league, as he only ended up punting the football 65 times.

When taking into consideration that Hekker combined for 194 punts during the previous two seasons, it’s a positive sign to see the Rams didn’t need to use their star punter as much last year while knowing they could still count on him when needed.
