Isn’t it ironic how the Rams traded Eric Dickerson to the Indianapolis Colts in the 1980’s, only to later acquire Marshall Faulk from the same team before the 1998 season?

Coming off an impressive 1998 campaign in which he recorded 2,227 yards from the line of scrimmage to go along with 10 total touchdowns, this is just one of many examples why St. Louis was beyond thrilled to land Faulk when they did. It might have been a peak into what Faulk had in store during his first season with the Rams in 1999.

Rams fans will always remember how Faulk’s first season with the team in 1999 happened to be the first year of The Greatest Show on Turf. The star running back became quite the dynamic duo with quarterback Kurt Warner on offense.

In fact, the three-year span of Faulk playing for St. Louis from 1999-2001 had some of the most ridiculous numbers. He appeared in 44 games, recording 6,765 yards from the line of scrimmage, while finding the end zone a total of 59 times.

These kind of statistics are basically unheard of at the NFL level. As great of a player as Dickerson was, it’s tough to deny Faulk the honors of being the top team’s top running back in franchise history.

Also, it should be mentioned that Faulk’s impressive outing from 2000 where he finished with 2,189 yards from the line of scrimmage and 26 total touchdowns was good enough for him to win the MVP award. With Warner taking home the honors the year before, it was kind of cool to see two different members of the Rams win the award in back-to-back seasons.
