Fred Dryer. 27. player. 51. . Defensive End. (1972-81)

Believe it or not, Fred Dryer happens be one of a few former members of the Rams that went on to have a career in Hollywood after football. This shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise when looking at how the team was headquartered in Los Angeles all those years.

During the 1970’s, the Rams’ defense established a reputation for being one of the most dangerous units in the league. Without question, Dryer was one of the main reasons behind the success.

After spending the first three years of his career as a member of the New York Giants, along with refusing a trade to the New England Patriots, Dryer came over to the Rams in 1972. He would end up spending the final 10 years of his NFL career with the team.

While there were plenty of great moments throughout Dryer’s football career, one of the biggest accomplishments that still stands out the most to this day came during the 1973 season. He became the first player to record two safeties in a single game. Safeties are rare enough, but two in a game? Now that’s just ridiculous.

As impressive as it was to see Dryer start every single game (118) from 1973-80, it should also be noted that Los Angeles managed to earn a trip to the playoffs in all those seasons as well.

Seeing this talented team fail to win a Super Bowl, although they made one appearance, will always be considered a frustration time for Rams fans. That being said, nothing can take away from Dryer being part of one of the greatest defensive units in franchise history.
