SANTA CLARA, CA - SEPTEMBER 21: Cooper Kupp

When looking at the expectations surrounding the Los Angeles Rams, Cooper Kupp reaching his first Pro Bowl shouldn’t be ruled out for the 2018 season.

Heading into the 2017 offseason, the Los Angeles Rams knew it was a priority to improve their receiving corps to help make life easier for Jared Goff heading into his sophomore season after a disastrous rookie campaign.

While signing Robert Woods along with acquiring Sammy Watkins in a trade were considered two of the biggest key moves, many believed the selection of Cooper Kupp in the third round of the draft would turn out to be one of the biggest steals.

Turns out, the football fans who believed Kupp would turn out to be a steal ended up being absolutely correct when looking at the impact he made as a rookie after catching 62 passes for 869 yards to go along with five touchdowns.

Even though there were some concerns surrounding Kupp playing at a smaller school like Eastern Washington, the fact that he caught 428 passes for 6,464 yards with 73 touchdowns during his time with the Eagles shows why he was catching attention from the Rams.

There aren’t many receivers that are capable of posting these kind of numbers in a four-year span, but this was just one of many examples as to why Kupp was considered such a special talent. So with the Rams in need of help at the wide receiver position, selecting Kupp in the middle of the draft at the time, despite being at a smaller school, was a risk they could afford to take.

Turns out, this was the best decision Los Angeles could have made since Kupp’s numbers were not only impressive, but also there were times in which he looked like a veteran instead of a rookie. And now that he’s got a year of experience under his belt, the sky seems to be the limit for Kupp heading into his second season with the Rams.

Without question, Kupp was already expected to take a major leap during his sophomore campaign in a Rams’ offense loaded with talent, especially after acquiring Brandin Cooks in a trade with the New England Patriots in April.

As crazy as it sounds, Kupp could find himself in a position in which he ends up being a Pro Bowl receiver during his sophomore campaign with the Rams since he should benefit from opposing defenders working about the whereabouts of his teammates like Cooks and Woods.

It’s not going to be easy, but when looking at his numbers as a rookie, just imagine what could be in store for Kupp during year two of what seems to be a promising NFL career in Los Angeles.
