The one thing that is hard to quantify is how much winning and/or losing can be attributed to Donald past, present, or future.

In 2016, the Rams went 4-12 with AD, and in 2017 they went 11-5. With the truckload of talent LA has secured for this upcoming season, No. 99 might not be the trigger to better or worse.

The Rams are pretty much staking out such a claim and potentially saying, as is, this team can make a run with or without Donald on the field.

One thing looks to be true, and that is the Rams aren’t going the way of the Washington Redskins when they went out and blew the wad on Albert Haynesworth. A big contract with zero return for the Skins.

Now go easy, I’m not saying the two players are comparable. What I am saying is that Los Angeles doesn’t see the position as being worth the kind of money that could hamstring a franchise beyond a season or two where winning looks to be imminent.

LA isn’t in position to win the P/R battle, at least not yet. If the Rams are without No. 99 for any part of the season, and still win games, that tide will turn. If anything, Los Angeles has put itself in a position to make Donald a lesser part of the winning equation.

At least that’s what they look to be banking on.
