When the Rams took Kelly in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, a few eyebrows may have been raised in Los Angeles.

They shouldn’t have, as this may been a great pick for LA.

Kelly is a running back who will get a lot of attention and open more than a few eyes. At 5 foot 10 inches, and weighing in at 216 pounds, Kelly’s a player who may be stuck behind an incumbent coming off of a monster season in Gurley, but that won’t mean he’ll be relegated deep on the depth chart.

All that said, look for the game against the Ravens to wet the appetite of fans in Los Angeles. Granted it’s only preseason action, and the first of four exhibition games. But it will be in this kind of venue where Kelly has an opportunity to shine.

I certainly don’t expect the rookie from Tennessee to challenge Gurley, but he’ll have the kind of preseason that will get McVay thinking. At the very least, it’ll give coaches, especially the head coach, a genuine sense of relief that a grinder like Kelly is on the roster.

Best of all in a season chock full of expectations, both McVay and quarterback Jared Goff look to have significant and varying types of weapons at their disposal. Against the Ravens, Kelly will show he’s one to keep an eye on.
