The Los Angeles Rams added a few players this offseason that have dynamic personalities that will need to be channeled in a positive way.

This offseason, the Los Angeles Rams made plenty of moves to get fans excited for the upcoming season. First, the Rams traded for the very vocal cornerback in Marcus Peters.

A couple of weeks later, the Rams decided to also trade for the physical Aqib Talib. Both of these guys love to talk trash on and off the field, but will need to control their emotions this season. The same goes for Ndamukong Suh, who the Rams signed in free agency.

Los Angeles needs to limit the amount of penalties they accrue this season, as penalties can decide games. Last season, the Rams totaled 112 penalties as a team. That was the 13th most in the NFL, which isn’t terrible, but is something that can be worked on.

You also have to take into consideration that the Rams had 25 penalties that were declined against them, which led the NFL. Rams will need to do away with mental mistakes when possible if they want to label themselves as contender.

Peters and Talib are a group of cornerbacks who visibly have fun playing football, but can let their emotions get the best of them.  It’s okay to be passionate and talk trash, but they will need to prevent themselves from doing anything extracurricular.

Peters and Talib will need to be vocal leaders, especially for the defensive backs. I don’t think they’ll have any problem being vocal. Here’s a video from the Los Angeles Rams official Twitter account showing Marcus Peters mic’d up. As you can see, he’s definitely not shy.

Suh is a guy that’s created an image of being a “dirty player’ around the league. Whether it is warranted, however, is up for debate. The Rams are going to need Suh to step up big time, especially if Aaron Donald maintains his holdout throughout the season.

Suh has always been a passionate, physical player that loves playing with an edge. If Suh can bottle up his anger and then let it out on the field within the rules, Suh could continue to be a dominant interior lineman.

The locker room for the Rams will be nothing short of exciting this season to say the least. All of the new acquisitions for the Rams will need to step up and lead this young team. This Rams team will play with a lot of tenacity, but that tenacity needs to be used in a positive way.

I have no doubt the Rams will be able to make these moves work though, with Sean McVay and Wade Phillips coaching them up.

If the Rams can create a rapport as a team, especially on the defensive side of the ball, the Rams will be a team contending for a championship. It all starts with the mentality of the players and whether they want it or not.

There’s no doubt in my mind they want it, but they must do it while not letting their emotions get in the way of the whole team’s goal, which is to win a Super Bowl for the city of Los Angeles and their fans.
