One huge storyline this week is backup quarterback Sean Mannion. if one thing has emerged this preseason, it’s the possibility that Manning may be an Achilles heel for a Rams team thinking they are on the brink.

By every definition, last Thursday in Baltimore was a dumpster fire kind of performance by Mannion, who looks to be stagnant in his growth, entering year four of his NFL career.

That’s a problem for Los Angeles, who’s depth looks to be a slippery slope, especially on the offense line, and now also at quarterback.

Look for McVay to build a plan designed to find Mannion some on field victories. He needs them. Both sides need them, as the collective performance against the Ravens left fans and NFL watchers with some serious heartburn.

If, and I think it’s a big IF, but if Mannion is to remain a member of the Los Angeles Rams, he needs to begin putting together a string of some decent tape that leaves less question and provides more positive answers.

This situation may prove to be the one fans and analysts watch most. It’s no secret the offensive line for the Rams is somewhat patchwork, even as LA made strides via this past NFL draft to shore things up. The Rams needs to know that a backup capable of carrying the load, should Jared Goff go down, is on the roster.

This week, look for McVay to help Mannion better answer that question, one way or the other.
