Here are three reasons John Kelly is quickly turning into one of the biggest steals from the Los Angeles Rams so far in preseason.

Back in April, the running back position wasn’t a major need for the Los Angeles Rams during the 2018 NFL Draft since they were already in great shape with Todd Gurley coming off an impressive season in which he finished second to Tom Brady for MVP honors. However, with four picks in the sixth round, the Rams felt they had nothing to lose by taking a chance on Tennessee’s John Kelly to compete with Malcolm Brown and Justin Davis for the No. 2 spot at running back behind Gurley.

Turns out, this could end up being one of the best decisions Los Angeles could have made when looking at how effective the rookie has been during his first two preseason games against the Baltimore Ravens and Oakland Raiders. Preseason may be boring to some football fans, but this is the time of year in which players like Kelly make a name for themselves when it comes to earning a roster spot, and if the rookie continues to play this well, chances are he’ll end up moving up on the depth chart.

Obviously, two games doesn’t define a player, and Kelly still has a lot to prove since the argument can be made that he hasn’t been truly tested after facing off against backup players instead of actual starters. But in honor of Kelly’s successful preseason so far, here are three reasons why the new Rams running back is already showing signs of being one of the biggest steals from the later rounds of the draft.
